“Justice and Good Governance. Only Through Education”: Prof. Julian Fink Speaks at the Nordic+ Initiative Mission in Albania

On 24 September 2026, Albanian University (AU) Rector Prof. Julian Fink and Head of the Rector’s Office Ms. Suela Koçibellinj took part in a consultation with the Dag Hammarskjöld Foundation’s Nordic+ Initiative Scoping Mission at UN House in Tirana. The meeting was facilitated by the Office of the UN Resident Coordinator in Albania. Discussion focused on UN reform and priorities for cooperation in Albania.

Prof. Fink stressed that universities help citizens understand the UN’s mission. The rule of law, justice, due process and good governance, he argued, depend on citizens who understand these principles and uphold them. Education builds that capacity. Ms. Koçibellinj, who has long worked in civil society, underlined the role of civil society as a bridge between citizens and institutions. Transparent partnerships between civil society and local government, she noted, strengthen local democracy and help reforms reach disadvantaged communities, women and young people in particular.

Prof. Flink addressed the Nordic+ mission, encouraging the United Nations, to lecture on SDGs and subjects related to the UN. Prof. He also called for universities to play a greater role in shaping legislation and public policy, and reaffirmed AU’s readiness to contribute its expertise.
